Featured Poem by Poet Daniel Andrés Brown-Schnurr

“Tomorrow”

Ignorance is bliss,

But knowledge is power.

Bliss is the bastard of a burden

We never knew we had,

While power paves a path

On which corruption

Can consume us.

Empires eventually erode,

While crowns

 Without their kings

    Wither, crack, and crumble,

Creating a compost

From which the future

Will freshly

Flower and flourish.

Remnants and ruins

Of what we once had

Are put to a tiring test

Of treacherous

Trial and tribulation,

Tarnishing our trophies

Of material mementos

Which will not be

Taken with us.

Rotting and rusting;

 Remaining unused,

 The names by which

We once were known

Will weather, wear,

And waste away

While we wander

Aimlessly to nowhere

Trapped within a tunnel

Known only as time.

Leaving only our legacies

Of legend and lore,

 Memories are

Molded into myth,

Buckled and Bound

By a "Ball and Chain"

  Brick-like buoyancy.

Suddenly insignificant,

 The surviving stories

Of who we once were

Are slowly, but surely

Snugly submerged,

 Silently succumbing

To the quicksand called,

"Tomorrow."
